Boxing For Beginners, What to Expect in Your First Class

Round 1: Before you Arrive… What to Bring

Wear: A t-shirt or singlet, shorts or leggings, and runners

Bring: Water bottle, towel, and an open mind

Optional: Hand wraps and gloves (we’ve got spares if you’re new)

Vibes: relaxed, no judgment. Everyone was new once.

Round 2: Warm up

The first 10 minutes of the sessions is the warm up. This includes:

✅Skipping

✅Light bodyweight movements to prepare the muscles and joints.

✅Coach can go over basic movement and punches

Round 3: The Class

The class can focus on one of several different options:

✅Basic stance and guard

✅Straight punches (jab, cross)

✅Defensive moves (slip, roll)

Everything is broken down and easy to follow. You’ll leave feeling sharper, not battered with an eagerness to learn more.

Round 4: The Workout

Expect to move. Expect to sweat. Expect to feel empowered.

✅Pad work or bag rounds

✅Bodyweight exercises (think pushups, planks, squats)

✅A finisher round to get that heart rate up

Intensity is scaled to your level, whether you’re new to training or already gym fit

Round 5: Community

One of the most important elements in the boxing gym, the people.

✅Supportive teammates

✅Coaches who want you to win

✅A space where egos don’t fly

Darkside’s culture is built around showing up and leveling up, whatever your starting point.

Coach’s Corner

Your first session isn’t about being the best, it’s about showing up. Boxing teaches you to back yourself, stay composed, and enjoy the ride. At Darkside, we train beginners every day, and they leave stronger, prouder, and ready for the next round.

Anything that was mentioned above resonating with you? Want to see progress in just one session? Contact Darkside and take that first step in seeing a more confident, capable young adult. We have boxing sessions suitable for teenagers every day.
