MUAY THAI/KICKBOXING
Muay Thai is a style of kickboxing that originates from Thailand and uses the whole body. It is referred to as the art of 8 limbs, incorporating hands, elbows, feet, knees and grappling into a comprehensive and effective striking based martial art. It is a great cardiovascular workout, effective for self-defence and is a dominant striking style to train for competitive kickboxing and MMA. In saying that it is one of the most respectful of all combat sports and is immersed in tradition.
At Darkside Gym, we mix up the classes to include skills from Muay Thai, K-1 and Kickboxing giving the student a deeper skill set to ready them for all aspects of the stand up game. Ranging from traditional Muay Thai stance to an aggressive dutch style kick boxing.
The most common difference between the two sports is that while kickboxing is a 4-point striking system that involves the use of kicks and punches only, Muay Thai is an 8-point striking system involving the use of not only kicks and punches, but also makes use of elbows and knees, and the ‘full’ clinch (upper body grappling).
Our Muay Thai kickboxing classes teach effective fighting techniques and also provides students with a challenging workout. We cater to new beginners at all fitness levels, right through to advanced students competing professionally.
